The Cathedral

The Cathedral in Linköping is one of the biggest Cathedrals in the Nordic Countries. The tower reaches 107 meters up in the sky and is an important part of the skyline of Linköping. If you ever find yourself lost in Linköping, a good way to get yourself back on track is to lock for the tower and navigate yourself towards the most often visible Cathedral.

During the 1120´s a stone church was started to be built on the exact spot as where the present Cathedral is standing today. It was about have the size as the current church and somewhere around 1230 the stone church was being extended towards the east. This extention is now the oldest part of the cathedral. During the fourteenth century the Cathedral was expanded to its current length, 110 meters, and since than only smaller renovations has been made.

The Cathedral has generous opening hours and is worth a visit because of its magnificent. Different tours is available in various language. To find timetables for these tours the easiest way will be to visit the Cathedral.
