Nightlife in Linköping

Since linköping has one of Swedens biggest universities, a lot of students go out on Fridays and Saturdays. The general age of the people on the clubs are between 18 and 24. With some exeptions of course. There is one main street where most clubs are situated and the most people hang, called Ågatan. The clubs closes for the most part at 2 am on fridays and 3 am on saturdays (with room for error of course).

La Scala

La Scala is a bar located just across the square from Ågatan. The visitors mainly come here to meet up with friends and “preparty “or just to take a couple of shots, since the cheapest alcohol is to be found in this bar. A shot costs around 25 crowns and a beer around 35. Downstairs there is a dancefloor where you can dance, but La Scala is mostly a bar where you just hang out. It is pretty small but that definitely contributes to it´s cozynes, and that is probably why many people can just sit down, chill and hang out at the same time. The age limit is 18 and the entrance is free.

Platens Bar

Platens Bar is Linköping’s only rock club. The bar was opened in 1992 and has since then been established as the place to visit if you are looking for good music. Thursdays are the days for concert at Platens Bar, and during these nights you can enjoy really good live music from manly Swedish bands. At Platens Bar you can find a good mixture of people, even though the club mostly attracts young people. The entrance vary but usually you have to pay somewhere around 100 Swedish crowns to get in. The age limit changes from one night to another depending on the amount of people wanting to get in, but you can usually get in if you are18 years old.

Platå (nightclub)

Platå is one of the biggest and probably the most exclusive clubs in Linköping, where most young people, mainly high school students ages 18-19 goes to dance and hang out during the weekend. During weekends there is always a DJ playing and the music style is contemporary remixes of the hottest artists right now, such as Rihanna, Pit Bull etc. The age limit is 18 on Fridays, while on Saturdays the age limit is 20, although it is impossible to get in, so it´s definitely worth a try on Saturdays anyway. The drinks are usually very expensive, the lay around 160 crowns while a shot costs about 60 crowns and a beer around 40. If you come early in the evening you can come in for free, but after 11 (sometimes 10) the entrance usually costs 40 on Fridays and 80 at Saturdays (note that entrance rate may vary). Sometimes during the afternoon and early evenings free entrance tickets may be handed out, so if you know that you´re going out that night it might be something worth looking up.

Restaurang 55:an

This is the place that the students of Linöping visit when they want to buy cheap beer and mingle with a few friends. 55:an does not have a dance floor but during the summertime the bar is offering one of the greatest out-door dinners for young people. It is a great place to stop by on your way to the next club or if you are looking for a more relaxed evening then the clubs have to offer. Resurang 55:an has free entrance and an age limit of 18.

Sports bars

If you feel homesick or just want to check out the premiere league match you can make your way to one of the two sports bars downtown. They are named Pitchers and the Champs and are both situated within walking distance from the main square.

You find Pitchers at the end of Ågatan and in the basement they have a club called Pitch black that is open in the evenings. They show all kinds of sports events from football to golf, but make sure to be out in time for the big games.

The Champs lies down by the stream and is much like the pitchers in terms of what they show and the food they serve. If you where to point out one difference between the two it’s that the interior of the champs is quite “modern” whereas pitchers has more of a traditional feel to it.
